Health And Safety Policy
Health and Safety Policy for Cleaner Islington
This Health and Safety policy sets out how Cleaner Islington manages health, safety and welfare for employees, contractors, clients and members of the public. Our aim is to deliver high quality cleaning services while preventing accidents, injuries and ill health in every location where we operate.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Cleaner Islington is committed to providing and maintaining safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and systems of work. We will identify, assess and control health and safety risks that arise from our cleaning activities, including routine tasks and occasional deep cleaning. Health and safety considerations form an integral part of planning and delivering every contract we undertake.
Our objectives are to prevent accidents and work related ill health, comply with applicable health and safety legislation and best practice, consult with our staff on matters affecting their safety, and provide clear instructions and training to ensure work is carried out safely and responsibly.
Responsibilities for Health and Safety
Ultimate responsibility for health and safety within Cleaner Islington rests with senior management, who will ensure that appropriate resources, training and supervision are provided. Management are responsible for implementing this policy, reviewing risk assessments, maintaining safe systems of work and promoting a positive safety culture across the company.
Supervisors are responsible for day to day health and safety on site. They must ensure that staff follow safe working procedures, use equipment correctly, wear appropriate personal protective equipment and report hazards, near misses or incidents promptly.
All employees and contractors have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. This includes cooperating with Cleaner Islington on health and safety matters, attending training, following instructions, and reporting defects, hazards or concerns without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Procedures
Cleaner Islington will carry out and regularly review risk assessments for its cleaning operations, including office cleaning, residential cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning, commercial premises and communal areas. These assessments will identify significant hazards such as slips and trips, manual handling, working at height, electrical safety, use of cleaning chemicals and lone working.
Based on these assessments, we will implement appropriate control measures and safe systems of work. Staff will be informed of the findings of risk assessments and will be trained in the procedures relevant to their tasks. We will adapt our risk controls to suit each client site, taking into account building layout, client activities, and any vulnerable persons present.
Training, Information and Supervision
Cleaner Islington will provide suitable and adequate health and safety training to all staff, including induction training, task specific instruction and refresher training where needed. Training will cover safe use of equipment, correct manual handling techniques, safe use and storage of chemicals, use of personal protective equipment, emergency procedures and reporting lines.
Written instructions and guidance will be made available where appropriate, and supervisors will monitor work to ensure that procedures are followed. New employees and those undertaking unfamiliar tasks will receive closer supervision until they demonstrate they can work safely.
Use of Chemicals and Hazardous Substances
We will manage the use of cleaning chemicals in accordance with relevant safety data. Only approved products will be used and they must be stored, handled, diluted and disposed of in line with manufacturer instructions and company guidance. Staff will be trained in interpreting product labels and safe use instructions.
Appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, eye protection and masks will be provided where required. We will seek to minimise exposure to hazardous substances and will consider less hazardous alternatives whenever practical, while still maintaining effective cleaning standards.
Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment and Maintenance
Cleaner Islington will ensure that all work equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, extension poles, ladders and other tools, is suitable for its intended purpose and maintained in a safe condition. Defective equipment must not be used and must be reported immediately so that it can be repaired or replaced.
We will provide suitable personal protective equipment where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. Staff are required to use this equipment as instructed, keep it in good condition and report any loss or damage. Regular checks will be made to ensure that equipment remains fit for use.
Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses and work related health issues involving our staff or arising from our activities must be reported to a supervisor or manager as soon as possible. Records will be kept, and where necessary, investigations will be undertaken to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Cleaner Islington will ensure that staff are aware of emergency procedures relevant to the premises in which they are working, including fire evacuation routes, assembly points and the location of first aid facilities where these are provided on site. Our staff will cooperate fully with client emergency arrangements.
Consultation and Communication
We recognise the value of involving employees in health and safety matters. Cleaner Islington will communicate policy updates, risk controls and safety notices clearly and in a timely manner. Staff are encouraged to raise concerns, suggest improvements and report unsafe conditions without fear of reprisal.
Where appropriate, we will consult with workers and, if applicable, their representatives on changes that may affect their health and safety, including new equipment, new methods of work or changes in the work environment.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
Cleaner Islington will monitor health and safety performance through regular site checks, review of accident and incident data, feedback from staff and clients, and periodic audits. Findings will be used to improve procedures, training and risk controls.
This Health and Safety policy will be reviewed periodically and updated when necessary, for example following changes in legislation, significant incidents, or alterations to our services. The updated policy will be communicated to all relevant parties.
By working together and following this policy, Cleaner Islington aims to provide a consistently safe and healthy environment for staff, clients and the wider community in every location where our cleaning services are delivered.
